What should a 3 year old know educationally?

What are the 3 yr old developmental milestones that they should reach as a part of their average growth and development? Answers to these questions can give you an idea of what I should be teaching my 3-year old at home. Experts have identified a few things a 3-year-old should know educationally, and they are as follows.

Reading tips

Many of us think that reading skills start at school and typically around five years of age. But the truth is kids start building the blocks necessary for reading when they can balance their feet. They hear different rhyming words and the way they are pronounced, and as they get older, they try to understand the meaning of these words. It’s helped develop the toddler’s language skills.

Between the ages of three to five years, children understand the phonetic aspect. This is why this period is to start learning. They get familiar with certain words and actions and learn to repeat them.

Sometimes, they try to use it in word sentences of their own and often in the proper context! Also, by this time, they have their favorite book lists. And don’t be surprised if you see your 3-year old start learning through it and trying to read whole sentences by them!

During the preschoolers’ development, they learn to read and write letters and numbers when they are 3yo. Most children can identify letters of the alphabet or alphabet songs and distinguish them from numbers by this age. This is an important skill needed to become excellent readers later on.

As a parent, make it a point to read books to them as often as you can. Reading books various publications, even if they are on topics that your child can’t yet understand.

The basic idea is to expose them to new words and help them get familiar with language learning. Above everything, create a love for book reading that will help them to become great learners.

Sort objects for toddlers

Three years old child can identify common objects quickly. Most of the time, they know where and how that object is used. In general, kids can locate colors and basic shapes between two to three years. However, they may not know the specific color or shape name.

That’s why building blocks or Lego are an ideal activity for children of this age. The ability to identify simple shapes comes in handy during education. This is exactly how they learn to distinguish one alphabet or number from another. When they repeatedly look at the alphabets or numbers, they also get familiar and understand their use over time.

Expose them regularly to as many objects as possible. This ability to distinguish gets ingrained in them actively. Use household items like spoons, non-glass tumblers, stones, and just about anything that looks different. The best unicorn gifts pillow can be a good thing to learn.

Creating an association between objects

Some children make an association between related objects. An example, when you give children a square object and a triangle object, they are more likely to keep the triangle on top of the square to build a “house.â€

This idea is based on the images they see in their favorite books or even pictures in the real world. Such an association helps them in two distinct ways.

First off, it helps to improve their imagination and creativity. For example, have you ever noticed that your child tries to arrange things together in different ways and make up various objects on their own?

Those are signs of creativity and come from the fundamental idea of understanding. That objects are different, and yet they can be brought together to create new things.

This creativity and understanding will come in handy when they are ready to learn different science concepts in school. For example, when do you ask your child to sort similar objects? You are engaging them in an exciting activity. And at the same time, you are also helping them to improve their thinking skills. Both of these are essential for them to understand science or even engineering ideas in the future.

Due to these benefits, working with your child to help them identify different objects, shapes, and colors can set the stage to achieve excellence in education later on.

Vocabulary

Earlier, we discuss a three-year-old baby’s reading skills and vocabulary. While you can’t expect a wide range of words from your child, they should still convey what they want in the clear.

When you speak to your child about different things, they tend to get exposed to more words, which increases their vocabulary. According to Kidshealth.org, a typical 3 years old baby know at least 200 different words. And you can increase this number by spending a period talking to them.

So, the next time you think about what to teach a 3-year-old child at home. You can consider these ideas for their solid foundation and educational point. It will be their preschool years for learning. So spend a lot of time on toddler development and engaging them in different activities.

At the same time, understand that each child is different and learns at their own pace, creating a pressure-free learning opportunity.
